Witness to Love Couples Marriage Prep Program- Renewing the Church through Relationships is a virtues-based, Catechumenate model of marriage renewal and preparation that integrates modern principles of psychology and the virtues to help couples facilitate an authentic dialogue about their relationship. What makes Witness to Love unique is that the engaged couple chooses their own mentor couple. This is a couple they both admire and see as a source of faith formation. This mentor couple gives them a concrete connection and integration into the parish. Through the sharing of the mentor couples’ own marriage journey, the engaged couple inherits a “lifeline” of support in their commitment to Jesus and His Church.  The mentors must meet some basic requirements and are coached by a trained parish coordinator to mentor the engaged couple. Unlike other mentor models, there is no need to build trust in order for the marriage prep process to work – the trust already exists. Deep conversions, encounters with Christ, and renewal happen consistently for both the mentors and the engaged couple.

The Civil Marriage Initiative by Witness to Love- Sacramental Marriage Formation for Couples in Civil Unions is a comprehensive, revolutionary, nationally-researched and collaborative project. This project equips parishes and dioceses who desire to seek out, support, and inspire couples in civil unions to pursue transformative sacramental marriage formation.  The Civil Marriage Initiative provides an experience that is personal, inviting, timely, engaging and allows a space for growth and formation in the Sacrament of Marriage for couples in civil unions seeking convalidation in the Catholic Church. To date there has never been a collaborative grassroots effort to reach civilly married couples. This initiative has been guided by diocesan leaders who sense the urgency of this outreach.  Churches who participate in this revolutionary outreach receive training and marketing materials to invite couples in civil unions to receive sacramental marriage formation.  Couples seeking convalidation would then follow a mentor/virtues based program similar to the WTL Couples Marriage Prep Program, but tailored to their specific needs as a civilly married couple.

Be Light by Witness to Love- Marriage Enrichment Small Groups includes a few different initiatives, but the purpose remains the same- to create evangelizing spouses to be light in our homes, parishes and communities.  Let’s break it down a bit-

  • Be Light small groups (communities) is a concept the Verret’s have been working on for years, but with the need, and the urgency during the pandemic, the time was now.  The Verret’s envisioned a five-year movement. The divorce rate peaks in the first five years of marriage, so they wanted to have a specific roadmap, where the first year includes belonging to small group formation, creating the domestic church along with their mentor couples from their catechumenate stage, and then to continue the journey together in home based (Domestic Church) small groups in a date night setting.
  • Be Light Date Night Series during the pandemic- The date night idea came from The Verret’s knowing that couples need marriage enrichment. If couples were experiencing difficulties in their marriage during quarantine; being isolated from other couples, from their church community, and from their friends wasn’t helping the situation. The origin of the date night series was specifically to fight the isolation that couples experience, even before the pandemic.

Overall, Be Light is a 5 year movement, a 5 part mini date night series and Be Light: Year of Belonging is the first year of the 5 year movement.

Note: The Be Light Mini Date Night Series is a great introduction to the first Year of Belonging and can be hosted virtually or in a parish setting.  The goal for the Year of Belonging is for couples to gather in small groups at home (open the doors of the domestic church) or at the parish.

Be More and Be Light may be customized for a parish or diocese for a fee.  Visit our site for more information on the customization option in English and Spanish.
